BAE Systems Won $47 Million Contract to Modernize USS Howard

BAE Systems has received a $47.8 million contract from the U.S. Navy to modernize the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Howard (DDG 83) at the company’s shipyard in San Diego, the ship’s homeport.

The Nimitz Carrier Strike Group is on a regularly scheduled deployment to the Western Pacific. The company’s San Diego shipyard also was recently awarded a $11.5 million contract to dry-dock and modernize the San Diego-based mine countermeasures ship USS Champion (MCM 4). Work aboard the 224-foot-long ship will begin in January and will be completed August.
